Bring It On FitBit!

January 24th, 2010 at 11:26 pm . Posted in Fitness .

Normally I’d give up by now if I wasn’t seeing the pounds coming off. I’m glad I haven’t gained weight though.

This week I’m going to count calories! I know it will be frustrating and painful to count calories but I’m hoping I’ll get used to it. I’m bound to do this sooner or later so I just might as well as start now. For breakfast I have been eating Special K cereal and I admit there has been some days where I skipped breakfast because I was running late (no excuse I know). I have been trying different lean cuisine meals for lunch at work – I have figured out which ones I like and don’t like. I’m looking into alternatives for lunch since I don’t want to be living off lean cuisine meals.

I have not been snacking in between meals. When I do crave for something in between meals I chew on sugarless gum. My favorite is Berry Pearadise by Extra, but I haven’t been able to find them anymore so I get Sweet Watermelon. It really helps curb my cravings.

I just ordered a FitBit. Thanks, Rachel, for mentioning this to me the other day! Can you believe this thing tracks the calories you burn, how many steps you take, and how well you slept? I can’t wait to receive mine and see how it works. This would be a great way to really see how many calories I am burning and eating. I was thinking about getting a Bodybugg before but it’s more expensive on top of having to pay monthly to use the online management system to track calories. FitBit is only $99 one-time fee including access to the online management system.

If any of you already have FitBit, please let me know how you like it so far. I’m hoping it won’t take months to receive mine (expected shipping date is February 19th) like I’ve heard it took other people 3-4 months to receive theirs.

Here’s to another great week of exercising & eating healthy!

I’m tracking calories right now too. It’s always annoying at first, but then it gets so much easier and less painstaking. If you have an iPhone, I totally recommend the Lose It app. It’s free and amazing and most of the foods I eat are already listed in their database.

FitBit sounds awesome, I hope it will turn out to be incredibly useful! Counting calories on a daily basis sound like such a pain, but what Ashley said about the Lose It app, now I want one so I can use that haha. And other apps of course. :)

I remember when I did my internship in Houston, if I was running late, I could grab a banana or apple since it’s easy to eat in the car on the way to work. Plus you said something about bananas being a great benefit on a daily basis, so why not?

My favorite part of lunch was a wrap. It was this really healthy super thin pita/bread/whatever/icanfindoutforyou thing and I would put a bunch of lettuce in it, some healthier lunch meat, and low fat cheese (sharp cheddar is win for more flavor), and I would also have a little baggie of sliced tomato and added them at lunch time (so the bread would not get soggy). It was super easy to make especially if you prepared it the night before and have it ready to go in the morning. It was a nice habit to develop over the summer.

yay! Tracking calories with the FitBit is so ridiculously easy, it takes almost no time at all. And I think you’ll really like it. Just getting to see how much you’re burning vs how much you’re taking in really helps you figure out what you need to be doing. Plus you can challenge other people using the FitBit. PS – website works for you as soon as you order, so you can log your activities, food and water already. :)

    GO STEPHANIE!!!! :)

FitBIt sounds awesome. I can’t wait to hear what you think about it.

I wanted to comment about eating – I was told the best way to lose weight and stay in shape was not to eat three big meals a day, but about five smaller meals a day or every three hours. This could be a small breakfast in the morning (which, from what I heard, cereal is actually pretty bad – the best would be egg whites, fruit, bread, etc. the components of a balanced breakfast), a mid-morning snack of yogurt or/and a protein bar, a nice lunch, etc. I just invested in a whey protein shake powder today with the intention of supplementing it to my workout. My goal is different than yours, though, so I’m not really sure if it would be beneficial for you.

Just thought I’d share, though. :)

May I use you as an inspiration? I’m finding it really hard to stay motivated to go to the gym. However, if I know of more and more people who are going, then I’ll be more motivated to go, as well.

Great blog! I’ve just discovered it today.
The FitBit looks like fun. Pity they don’t ship to the UK yet, or I would have order after only a quick look at their website. You’ll have to let us know how it goes.

One of the reasons why so lots of people do not benefit greatly from speedy weight loss diets is because they go from eating heavy meals to starving themselves suddenly. This is the most harmful thing that you can do to your body. Your body needs lots of minerals and vitamins to function properly.
